The Biggest Breakthrough

Client after client comes to me in pain. The good news is that there is a path out of suffering. The epiphany is the same for everyone. It was the biggest breakthrough I had, and then I realized “Oh my gosh, everybody does just this!” 
 
Our biggest block to success in life is our own THOUGHTS! 
 
Years ago I had the biggest and best breakthrough of my life when I realized “My thoughts are not mine! I have power over my mind. I have the power to become the observer of my thoughts rather than the thinker of my thoughts!” 
 
Our thoughts are the aggregate of the cultural programming and parents we have inherited. Our own memories, experiences from the past, or people from the past that said we can’t have what we want, and we believed it! So our subconscious mind took that in, and that is what it’s creating.
 
You aren’t your thoughts, because you think them. You are the observer of your thoughts. 
 
Think about this for a bit… your awareness of your fear isn’t afraid. Your awareness of your anger isn’t angry. Your awareness of your sadness is not sad. 
 
There’s a part of you who is able to observe your experience without becoming it. It’s this part of you that is the breakthrough to your freedom!
 
Your brain is a supercomputer that follows the directions it’s programmed with. It believes what it repeatedly hears and what you repeatedly say to yourself. Your self-talk shapes your brain, which shapes your beliefs, which drives your behavior, which creates your thoughts, feelings, experiences, and your entire reality. 
 
You are not meant to be led by your mind.  You have a choice in how your brain is programmed. You create your reality with the thoughts you repeat and the beliefs you align with! This is scientifically proven through neuroplasticity. Our expectancy determines the outcome. You create your reality with the thoughts you repeat and the beliefs you align with. 
 
You are so powerful that you can upgrade your programming! Just as if you were a computer… you can delete thoughts that are dragging you down, you can install new thoughts that uplift you. 
 
YOU are the master of your mind. Every cell in your body is eavesdropping on your internal dialogue. So let me ask you this… how's your internal dialogue?
 
Overcoming the thoughts that are driving our lives is something we can all decide to do. You are in charge of your thoughts. We live in a time of uncertainty. We can’t control the economy, politics, COVID, other people, or the weather. We can absolutely control our thoughts and it will change your life when you take command!
 
If you notice yourself looping on thoughts, start questioning your thoughts. Make a vow to stop criticizing yourself. Stop scaring yourself with your thoughts. Stop worrying when it’s not useful. 
 
If you want to change your life, you must first change the way you think about your life! 
 
When you can’t control what’s happening, challenge yourself to control the way you respond to what’s happening. That’s where your power is.
 
  • Don’t get attached to your thoughts. Just because you have a thought has nothing to do with whether or not it’s true. Notice “Oh, that’s not a helpful thought.” 
  • Question your thoughts… “Is this thought true? Hmmm. Where did this thought come from? Does this thought support me?” 
  • Be curious about your thoughts. “What if it all works out? What is a more nurturing uplifting thought? ” And then start playing it out, picturing what if it all works out. 
  • Redirect your thoughts to your breath, what is in front of you right here right now, things you already have that you’re grateful for, or affirmations.

Taking charge of unwanted thoughts is hard stuff. It sounds easy, but in my experience, it takes practice and repetition to tackle the thoughts that have taken over the space in your mind for most of your life. 
 
Be easy on yourself. You’re attempting to change years of conditional thinking, which doesn’t happen overnight. It takes patience, compassion, and understanding with yourself to overcome old ways of thinking. But it is possible to completely rewire your neural pathways, and it is possible to create new pathways to peace.
